Free Stories from Neil Gaiman

If you pop on over here you will find some free audio from Neil Gaiman. I think it’s great that, at the same time as more and more people are cashing in on the web again and looking at it like some great big candy-jar, there are some people like Neil who get it and are giving stuff away for free.
For those of you who don’t know who Neil Gaiman is – shame on you! He’s just one of the better authors of our time – and an active blogger to boot! Where he finds time to breathe, I don’t know
I really appreciate the free stuff but more than that, I like seeing someone who understands the concept that attracting people to your “product” (in this case your writing) is not just about publicity. (Not that giving stuff away for free is bad publicity by any stretch of the imagination I mean look, people write blog posts and newspaper articles about it…) It is also about getting your ideas, products, words into the minds of people out there and onto the tips of their tongues. Yes you can do this through clever little viral ad campaigns, zippy little jingles and begging bloggers for linksÙ¡ but it is much more effective to get people to talk about your product because they have already sampled it and have enjoyed it! For crying out loud people – lets start selling quality already and get away from the Ford legacyÙ¢ of mass produced, hard sell consumables!
Ù¡ I actually heartily approve of the way Glengarriff Lodge have reviewed their competition entry criteria (or the wording thereof) after the negative feedback they got. Fair play.
Ù¢ I drive a Ford… *shrug*
